Barrus is a major importer and distributor of engines and engine powered products and is recognised worldwide as a leading custom-engine builder. As a company dependent on maintaining and continuing a high level of engineering skills, we are looking for hardworking students to enhance our specialist R&D team.

The R&D team work alongside the company’s Special Products division which supplies engines built to specialist design applications. The team is responsible for developing ideas into full production models to suit the stringent requirements of military and commercial customers worldwide.

Based in Bicester, Oxfordshire, Barrus houses one of the world’s largest and most modern custom-engine building facilities, allowing products to be built from single units to large volume production runs.

The R&D Technician will be involved in every step of the R&D process from project conception, design, prototype and testing to production of the final product. From the start, you will have individual responsibilities to develop both new and existing projects and will be encouraged to share your ideas and opinions to help shape these projects.

Past students have found the experience a valuable insight into the world of work which has not only helped them towards achieving their final grade but also improved their employability significantly after completing their studies.

The successful candidate will be a team player with the ability to produce work to a high standard and use their initiative. The job will be challenging, but certainly rewarding with hands-on engineering experience.

The R&D Technician will be involved in:

•  The development of R&D design projects using CAD systems to aid the production of specialist engineering solutions supporting both new and existing customer requirements.
• Carrying out practical work to experiment on, produce and test Company and customer’s products and record the results accordingly.
• Producing Build Standards, Special Instructions and Parts Book Owners Manuals for each R&D project.
• Liaising with new and existing customers and suppliers including on-site visits.
• Adhering to company procedures and Health & Safety regulations to ensure that Barrus maintains its quality systems to the requirements of BSENISO 9001.
