Barrus showcase Final Tier 4 compliant engines at Plantworx

Plantworx logo

Barrus is now able to offer the latest John Deere and Yanmar Final Tier 4/Stage IV compliant engines covering a power range from 6hp to 600hp.

John Deere.

The John Deere engines are built to deliver responsive performance, reliable uptime and low cost of operation in the most demanding off-highway applications. John Deere has combined the best available engine technologies to enhance the customer experience whilst meeting the more stringent emissions regulations of FT4. The John Deere Integrated Emissions Control system technology configurations are tailored to meet Final Tier 4/Stage IV emissions regulations and customer requirements within each power range.

“We have ensured a reliable Final Tier 4 solution through 60 million Interim Tier 4 field hours and more than 500,000 hours of Final Tier 4 testing,” comments John Piasecki, Director of Worldwide Marketing, Sales and Customer Support for John Deere Power Systems. “The total diesel fuel and DEF consumption with our Final Tier 4 engines is generally expected to be lower than diesel fuel only consumption of our Interim Tier 4 engines,” John concludes.

John Deere Power Systems has recently reached two new milestones in the transition to Final Tier 4. The PowerTech TM EWX 4.5 litre engine was certified as compliant with US Environmental Protection Agency Final Tier 4 and California Air Resources Board emissions regulations. The 55kW model is the first John Deere Final Tier 4 engine below

56kW to achieve Final Tier 4 certification, confirming customer confidence in John Deere Integrated Emissions Control system technology. John Deere also recently started production of its larger displacement Final Tier 4/Stage IV engines for models meeting emissions regulations that took effect 1 January 2014, for engines 130kW (174hp) and above.

Bateman Engineering Ltd, long-standing customers of Barrus, is one of the first UK companies to use the latest John Deere Final Tier 4, PowerTech engines to power machines from their range of agricultural crop sprayers.

Bateman’s philosophy has always been to produce machines that are ahead of their time, creating a benchmark for the industry, which is why they have relied on the engine technology chosen by John Deere to meet, and exceed the latest emissions.

The innovative, Bateman Sprayer RB range has been designed and manufactured to the highest standards for use by arable farmers and vegetable growers. The latest and largest model, the RB55, features a 5,000 litre stainless steel tank and a 24-42 metre, variable geometry (VG) boom, a steel construction making it strong, stable and lightweight for exceptional spraying rates.

The RB55 is powered by a John Deere PowerTech 6068HFC09 engine. This 275hp, 6-cylinder, water-cooled turbocharged diesel, features additional after treatment including an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system plus associated operational equipment including the addition of an Ad-Blu tank and monitoring system. This provided Bateman the enhanced performance, emission compliance and fuel economy that they required.

Two prototype machines were produced, and Barrus application engineers also assisted Bateman with their development work associated with the incorporation of the John Deere engine into the RB55.

The RB55 is now in full production with Bateman taking delivery of a total of 7 engines.

Yanmar

Yanmar has recently announced that the TNV-CR Series industrial diesel engines are already fully compliant with EU Stage V requirements that will be introduced in 2019. There are six families of engines in the Yanmar TNV-CR series ranging from 19kW to 56kW, a mix of three and four cylinder water-cooled diesels and direct-injection. This means that OEMs already using Yanmar TNV-CR engines will not be required to make any necessary changes to comply with the new regulations.

The water-cooled, direct-injected, Yanmar 4TNV88C will be on show at Plantworx. This engine has use of an ECU-controlled Common Rail fuel injection system, water-cooled exhaust gas recirculation (Cooled EGR), a new intake throttle valve and diesel particulate filters (DPF). Yanmar’s original filter regeneration is controlled by different regeneration patterns, selected according to the operational period and load conditions involved. This DPF regeneration control enables Yanmar to achieve extremely low lube oil dilution by fuel oil and lower fuel consumption overall. Also, the remarkable reduction of LOC leads to extended durability and longer maintenance intervals for the DPF.

Yanmar’s popular L-Series now has two engines that are Final Tier 4 compliant, the L70 and L100. The key features of these engines include increased power, minimal or no physical size increase, drop-in replacement for most Interim Tier 4 L-Series models, variable and fixed speed models, and DOC fitted integral with the exhaust system. These engines are feature packed, offering the ideal power solution for construction equipment, generators, pumps and hydraulic power packs. “The L-Series has been a leader in the single cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine market, and we are excited to be able to continue to supply our customers with the option of L-Series models that meet the EPA’s Final Tier 4 regulations whilst still maintaining its easy to service features,” comments John Day, General Manager of the Industrial Division, E. P. Barrus Ltd.

There will be a selection of machinery on the stand demonstrating a range of engine applications. To find out more about these and the complete Barrus engine line-up, please visit us at Plantworx on Stand 8E2.
