The HiSun Sector 15 kW electric utility vehicle is working hard at The Watatunga Wildlife Reserve in the setting of ancient woodlands and wetlands located in Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

The Watatunga Wildlife Reserve was created out of a passion for endangered species by farmer and conservationist Ed Pope. The 170-acre reserve specialises in the conservation of endangered large-hoofed mammals, mainly deer and antelope, and around 70 different bird species. Ed Pope, Managing Director of Watatunga Wildlife Reserve had previously owned petrol UTV and ATV machines and he was keen to switch to electric power for use on the Reserve and the farm. He chose the HiSun Sector 15 kW 4-seater lithium-powered UTV.

“I had been looking for the ultimate electric UTV for some time and it wasn’t until last year that I discovered a suitable alternative to a petrol machine that offers the power, range, and is built for work, “ explained Ed.  “The HiSun has lived up to expectations and with the long wheelbase, I can get several passengers in and have room for tools and animal feed, as well as the option to tow.  We work the machine hard and it has proved to be very capable on the farm, Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, and for many conservation projects.”

One minute the HiSun UTV will be towing a trailer with a tonne of topsoil, and the next minute it will be towing a trailer with 20 schoolchildren on tours of the reserve. Then it moves on to its next job of delivering Buffalo burgers to the barbecue hits for events.

Ed continued, “What drew me to the machine was the lithium-ion electric unit which is quiet, powerful and fits with conservation and game management activities, here at Watlington Farms and Watatunga Wildlife Reserve. The range is good and being lithium-ion there is no maintenance and charging is easy. I had high hopes for this machine and it has excelled. It’s turned into our ultimate go-to machine.”

Watatunga Wildlife Reserve

The reserve is a conservation haven for endangered species from around the world. Maintaining a natural, well-balanced, and calm space is key for the well-being of the wildlife as well as not disturbing the reserve's visitors and holiday guests who can visit the site throughout the year based on bookings and seasonal opening times.

To enhance the experience for the visitors the reserve offers popular electric buggy tours to explore the large open spaces of wetland areas, lakes, woodlands, grass meadows and herb-rich pastures. To become part of the natural environment, these electric buggies need to be able to safely and carefully meander numerous terrains to see the likes of endangered deer, antelope, water buffalo and birds.
